Root Cutters

Landside Root Cutter

These were optional items offered by John Deere to aid in plowing deep rooted crops such as alfalfa. Since the plow bottom only actually cuts around 90% of the total plowing width per bottom, the furrow slice normally 'breaks' away. With deep rooted plants like Alfalfa, it is imperative that all of the roots be severed to ensure the plants are killed.

The landside root cutter also aids in balancing out some of the pressure put against the moldboard that can lead the plow toward the unplowed land making it track crooked.

A set of these on a plow at a show or plow day would really be net.
