The 720 Gasoline
This is the 720 gasoline tractor.
It was bought at the farm sale of Mr. Garland Buck of Commerce, Missouri in the spring of 2002. He purchased it new in 1958 from French Implement of Charleston, Missouri. The dealer had the 730's in on the lot and this was the only 720 so he got a good deal on it.
What makes this tractor special is that Mr. Buck kept the tractor spotless and the best part of it all is that since new, my tractor mentor Marvin Fluegge (pictured above & Factory trained on the "R" Diesel tractor) did the service work on the tractor. Marvin rebuilt the engine in the early 90's boring the block .045 oversize and installing new aluminum pistons at that time. It has right at 7300 original hours on a working tachometer. It is straight as an arrow and runs excellent! We put it on the dyno at plow day last summer and reached 71h.p. when the PTO clutches began slipping!
It still helps out on the farm with things like raking hay, tedding hay, spreading manure, plowing, moving wagons, rotary hoeing, and occasionally corn planting & running the 336 square baler.

What a great summer activity...tedding hay with the 1957 John Deere 720 gasoline tractor. It was a beautiful early June day in 2008! It's hard to tell but this is some of the thickest hay dad has ever seen (135+ square bales/acre). |
